Community Guidelines
wordia.com is a new online visual dictionary; a place where people can search for and define the words that matter to them in their life – a new way to interact with language and other people.
We’re keen to ensure that wordia.com is a fun, safe, educative and entertaining destination, but, like all new things, it will take time to establish a community of users, for us to observe how people use wordia.com, and to gauge how users interact with each other.
But for now, to ensure a great user experience - and to retain quality search results – we moderate wordia.com for quality and abuse. We review videos flagged as inappropriate.
When a video gets flagged as inappropriate, we review that video to determine whether it violates our Terms of Use. However, flagged videos are not automatically taken down. If we remove your video after reviewing it, you can assume that we removed it deliberately, and for a good reason. Please read our Terms and Conditions so you know what’s acceptable – and what’s not!
If you find any videos on wordia.com that you believe to be inappropriate or in violation of our Terms of Use, please flag them up so we can review them. Obviously all video definitions will be subjective – and we are aware that certain sensitive words may attract videos or postings that some may find offensive.
We have therefore drawn up a “watch list” of words which we feel should be approached with a degree of caution, and will monitor this list in a close, caring way. Our aim is to promote freedom of expression, without endorsing any definition that is offensive, inflammatory or gratuitous.
YouTube
We use YouTube to serve and host our video material. We do this because YouTube are the experts when it comes to online video. This also means that all wordia.com video definitions will also be discoverable within YouTube!
We closely follow YouTube’s own terms and conditions and moderate wordia.com to ensure that content uploaded though wordia.com adheres to these. Here are some common-sense rules to help you to use wordia.com in a responsible way:
-
wordia.com is not for pornography or sexually explicit content. If this describes your video, even if it’s a video of yourself, then please don’t post it on wordia.com. Also, be advised that we work closely with child protection authorities and we always report child exploitation.
-
Don’t post videos showing bad stuff like animal abuse, drug abuse, or bomb making. Such material will be removed.
-
Graphic or gratuitous violence is not allowed. If your video shows someone getting hurt, attacked, or humiliated, don’t post it. Such material will be removed.
-
wordia.com is not a shock site. Don’t post gross-out videos of accidents, dead bodies and similar things. Such material will be removed.
-
Respect copyright. Only upload material that you made yourself or that you are authorised by the creator to use. This means don’t upload videos you didn’t make yourself, or use content in your videos to which someone else owns the copyright.
-
We encourage free speech and defend everyone’s right to express unpopular points of view. But we don’t permit hate speech (any material which attacks or demeans a group based on race or ethnic origin, religion, disability, gender, age, veteran status, and sexual orientation/gender identity).
-
We operate zero tolerance for predatory behaviour, stalking, threats, harassment, invasion of privacy, or the revealing of other members’ personal information. Anyone caught doing these things may be permanently banned from wordia.com.
-
Everyone hates spam. Do not create misleading descriptions, tags, titles or thumbnails in order to increase views. It’s not okay to post large amounts of untargeted, unwanted or repetitive content, including comments and private messages.
That’s it!
Thanks for reading!
