An Overview
Wordia is a free games-based learning platform - built on the foundations of a dictionary - that blends word-based learning games with interactive video vocabulary.
Wordia encourages students to learn through play - building subject ‘Word Banks’ as they compete with classmates and other schools in a fun, competition-led, learning environment.
The Wordia team is building a way for educators to measure a student’s progress and performance through games-based learning - and we’re busy enhancing the competition experience through Classroom, School and District leader boards.

Learning Games
The Wordia team is busy developing learning games that are focused in four key areas of Oracy, Grammar, Spelling and Auditory (Phonics). Stay tuned for many more games in this area!
Type of Games
From the classroom, to after-school clubs, to the bus journey home - the Wordia team understand that educators and students engage with learning games in many different environments:
In both cases, we provide word lists and lesson plans for free to aid educators with their teaching.
Word Banks & Badges
As students work through the site, each word they encounter is stored in a word bank. This allows them, and their teachers, to review their progress and assist in their learning.
When a student achieves a particular milestone in their learning (e.g. scoring 100% on a geography game) they will be awarded with a badge, displayed as part of their profile. This not only provides a very quick review of their progress, but also adds positive reinforcement to their experience. It then encourages other pupils, who are able to see the badges, to “level-up” with their classmates.
Both of these features are currently under development, and will be available shortly. If you have any comments or suggestions please let us know by emailing them to feedback@wordia.com
Avatars - and Student Safety
To enhance the competition experience, and to reinforce safety across the site, both educators and students (users) can create their own individual avatar when they register an account. Users can change and customise their Avatar when they please.
The Search Engine
At the heart of the site is a powerful search engine tying together all of our words, games, and videos.
You can type in a word that you're exploring in class, a subject, topic, or even the name of a game and it'll find as many resources as it can.
The search results will include the dictionary definition of that word and, where available, videos that explore the word and its pedagogy, and games which feature the word in a teaching capacity.
If there are no games or videos for the exact word, similar words will be shown instead. For example, the search term for 'sea' would also find words about 'ocean' and 'lake'.
As we are an expanding resource, there might not be a video for every word your class is using. In this case, you can encourage your students to explore the meaning of that word, and upload to our site so that other students may learn from it.
